There Should Be a Mother's YEAR For This Lady!

Mother's Day.

When I was a kid this was always a day when my mom was a little cranky. I know she will kill me for telling the world that fact, but it is true. As an obnoxious little kid, I could never figure this out, what was there to be cranky about? She got dinner, a nap, and we hung up our clothes after church, what more do you need? As an adult, and a mother myself, I can see what the fuss was about. It is a day to look at your life, and you kids, and to feel the pressure to be the perfect mother. Well, my mom doesn't need to feel that pressure. She really is the perfect mother.

It is slightly intimidating to have a mother like mine. She has done it all, she is gorgeous, and she never backs down from a challenge. Even though she is so amazing, she is also sweet and caring and a more generous woman you will not meet. My children call her when I don't give them the answer they are after, and they even have a sign in their room to prove it. It says "If your having a bad day, call Grandma!" and her phone number is written on the back. One day when one of my boys was a bit younger, and throwing a fit in his room, I found him trying to climb up on the book case to reach that sign so he could call Grandma and tell her all about what a terrible mom he had.

My mom is smart and funny, AND she irons pillow cases. Matt wants to know why that last one wasn't passed down. I tell him he can have 2 of the 3. When I am upset, I call my mom. When I am happy, I call my mom. When I am frustrated, I call my mom. When I am in a jam, I call my mom. When my dad answers the phone, sometimes he just says, "Hi Lori, hold on, I will get your mom." He knows.

So, Madge, this Mother's Day, I want you to know that you are the best, and that I love you. I know we have all given you grief over the years, and we are all getting pay back in the form of our own children. You are the standard by which I judge my own skills as a mother. You have always been there for me. ALWAYS. When I look back on the best times and the hardest times in my life, you are always a part of those times. Cheering me on, encouraging me, supporting me, scolding me, congratulating me, teasing me, and most of all, loving me.

I think you deserve more than a day for Mother's Day, you should get a Mother's YEAR. Love You!

This Is What It's All About

This is my favorite picture from the trip. I love these boys. They were so much fun, and they loved every thing that we did. Matt made it all so fun for them. The thing you don't see in any of the pictures is me. That is because I had pneumonia the whole trip. I didn't know I had pneumonia, but I knew I was so sick I wanted to die. I kept thinking I would get better, but I just kept getting worse. Matt was so sweet to me, and he did everything for the kids. All I did to return the favor was cough. I coughed until I think he was ready to leave me by the side of the road, but he never complained. I never want to be that sick again! Even though that part of the trip was miserable, we still had a blast. I wish the boys would stay this age forever. I even thought for a minute that I might trade my mountains for the beach. It was just for a moment though. The thing is, I would be happy where ever I was, as long as I had these guys with me.

Ahhh, the Sun

We took these pasty little bodies to the beach. They loved every second of it. Our place was right on the beach so they just ran in and out all day. It was so fun to see them play together and invent things to do.
Hyatt worked on his tan. He also was in charge of all crab hunting expeditions, and tide pool creations. He can be a really fun big brother when he wants to be.
Griff had one little toy and he was perfectly content. He dug with the yellow shovel all day, every day.
They caught crabs all day. They had quite the collection by 5:00. They wanted to bring them home ( of course) but I reminded them that we are done with pets until we get the dog. It was so easy, and so nice. No crying, no bargaining. The only bad thing is, we really have to get the dog.

Best Part

After 3 days here, we left the craziness, and had some fun here (look down)

This was the best part. I love this beach.
